If something doesn’t work

I converted a PDF and got an empty file

Your PDF is most likely a scan or photos of pages. Such a file only holds pictures, with no text inside, so there is nothing to pull out — even though you can clearly read it on screen. Recognising text in pictures (OCR) isn’t something these tools do yet. A quick way to tell: try selecting text in your PDF reader. If it doesn’t select, it’s a scan.

After PDF → Word the layout shifted

A PDF stores where every letter sits on the page, not paragraphs and headings the way Word does. Converting means rebuilding that structure by guesswork, and complex layouts — multiple columns, text boxes, tricky tables — are where it drifts. Plain text, headings and simple tables come through well. It’s usually quicker to fix a few spots afterwards than to retype the document.

It says the file is password-protected

The PDF is encrypted, so it can’t be opened for conversion even if you know the password — the tools don’t ask for one. Open it in your usual PDF reader, remove the protection (usually File → Protect, or Properties → Security), save a copy without the password, and upload that.

My file is too large or too long

One file can be up to 100 MB. If it’s bigger, run it through “Compress PDF” first — for scans that often cuts the size several times over. There are also page limits: the editor takes up to 250 pages and PDF → Word up to 300. Beyond that, use “Split PDF” and work in parts.

A tool is greyed out and won’t open

That means the server is temporarily missing the component that tool needs. It has nothing to do with your file — the card goes grey by itself so you don’t upload anything for nothing. The other tools keep working; try the greyed one again a bit later.

What happens to my files?

A file is used only to produce the result you asked for. It’s deleted from the server right after the answer is sent — and if you close the page midway, a cleanup pass removes anything left behind within a couple of hours. Files aren’t passed to anyone, and no account is needed to use these tools.
